Highly adapted to life in the marine environment, sea birds practically only visit land to nest. As top predators, these species are excellent indicators of the health status of our Oceans, being particularly vulnerable to marine pollution (eg by plastics), by-catch and the scarcity of marine resources caused by the fishing industry. As one of the most threatened bird groups globally, the species present in Cape Verde are no exception. Das nine species that reproduce locally, six have populations with negative trends, of which two with unfavorable threat categories according to the Red List of the IUCN.
