About our history
2006-2010: Birth of the Biosphere
José and Tommy Melo denounce the massacre of baby crappers in the Raso islet. The military intervene. Biosfera was born with the technical support of SPEA (BirdLife Portugal).
2011 - 2015: Conservation on the move!
The nesting sites of the sea turtle (Caretta Caretta) on the island of Santa Luzia are monitored and protected. In Mindelo, the exhibition of the desert island complex allows the population to discover the wonders and threats of our natural heritage.
2016-2020: Strong partnerships by our side
Sea Shepherd offered us the boat Jairo Mora Sandoval, the MAVA foundation and Birdlife reinforce the protection of turtles and sea birds, and allows the reintroduction of Calhandra-do-Ilhéu Raso in Santa Luzia. 140 primary schools are sensitized and 6 Cape Verdean personalities are mobilized in favor of our cause.
2021-2025: The struggle continues…
We are strengthening our skills and our internal structure. With a new conservation strategy, the Biosphere is committed to fighting marine pollution, participating in the creation and management of marine protected areas and consolidating legislation for better protection of biodiversity.
